A safer, more reliable water supply for Lettermacaward
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Donegal County Council, is delighted to announce that it has signed the construction contract to upgrade Lettermacaward Water Treatment Plant. This important project will help provide a safer, more reliable water supply for homes and businesses in the area
Uisce Éireann is investing €12 million in this upgrade project which will support economic, social development and tourism in the area while reducing the risk of supply interruptions and ensuring compliance with EU Drinking Water Regulations.
EPS has signed the contract and will work on behalf of Uisce Éireann to deliver this project. Works on the project are expected to commence in the coming months and will take approximately 24 months to complete.
Speaking about the project, John McElwaine, Asset Delivery Regional Lead with Uisce Éireann, said: "We are looking forward to delivering this important project on behalf of the local community in Lettermacaward. This investment in local water infrastructure will improve drinking water quality and security of supply in this popular tourist area.
"This project will involve an upgrade to the existing water treatment plant at the Lettermacaward site as well as increasing water storage on site. The construction of a new water main from Derkmore Lough to the water treatment plant is also another important element of this project. Improvements to the network are also being undertaken with the construction of two network booster pumping stations which will serve the Portnoo, Rosbeg, Drimlaghdrid, Derrydruel and Maghery areas.
"We look forward to working with the local community to deliver this essential project in conjunction with our partners Donegal County Council and EPS."
Uisce Éireann and our appointed Contractor, EPS, will continue to communicate with the local community in Lettermacaward regarding the upcoming works as well as throughout the project. For more details on the project, please check out the Our Projects section of our website for further information.
