Ballygar enjoys a more reliable water supply
There was good news for Ballygar locality this week as Uisce Éireann completed works to upgrade parts of the local water supply.
By replacing ageing water mains, Uisce Éireann has not only reduced water being lost underground but has given homes and businesses a more reliable water supply by helping to prevent bursts and outages.
As part of the project, over 2km of old water mains were replaced at Pound Road junction along Hymany Way to provide a more safe and secure water supply for customers in the local community.
Thanking the public for their cooperation and patience, Gerry O'Donnell, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead with Uisce Éireann, said: "Residents in this area will have noticed an immediate improvement in the consistency of their water supply as a result of the works undertaken. For years they were seriously impacted by frequent bursts but we are pleased to have now completed this essential project. We thank the locals for their patience and cooperation.
"Uisce Éireann and Galway County Council would also like to thank our delivery partners, Farrans Construction Ltd, for completing this project ensuring the operational performance of the road wasn't impacted, for the benefit of our customers," continued Gerry.
This project is part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme. By the end of 2021 Uisce Éireann has invested over €500 million in reducing the level of leakage across the country by fixing and replacing old and damaged water mains. We're now investing a further €600 million up to the end of 2024.
This work will ensure a safe, reliable water supply which is vital for our health, our environment and our growing population and economy.
Uisce Éireann is responsible for the delivery of all public water and wastewater services in Ireland.
