Blessington Street to benefit from a more secure and reliable water supply
Securing the water supply in Dublin City remains a vital focus for Uisce Éireann with works due to begin on Blessington Street in the coming days.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Dublin City Council, are undertaking vital water network improvement works on Blessington Street, Dublin City, to ensure a safer and more secure water supply to customers.
These improvement works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme which focuses on providing communities with a more reliable water supply by removing old damaged pipes from the water network.
Matt Thompson, Water Network Programme Lead with Uisce Éireann, explains: "These works will involve the replacement of nearly 200m of aged cast iron water mains with new modern pipes. These works are part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to safeguard the water supply across Dublin City and we are delighted to progress this important project along Blessington Street. The new water mains will significantly reduce the number of bursts and outages, improving the water supply to homes and businesses for years to come."
Acknowledging the local community, Matt added: "We understand this type of work can be inconvenient and we will ensure our crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these upgrade works might cause."
The works, being carried out by GMC Utilities Group on behalf of Uisce Éireann, are due to start on Monday 25 April and are expected to be completed by the end of May.
To minimise disruption, the works will be carried out in short sections and a stop/go traffic system will be in place. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. The works may involve some short-term supply interruptions which we understand may cause inconvenience. The project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.

Uisce Éireann has invested over €500 million between 2017 and the end of 2021 to reduce leakage and replace old pipes on the public water network. Fixing leaks can be complicated but we are making progress. In 2018 the rate of leakage nationally was 46%, by the end of 2021 it was reduced to 38%.
