Night-time restrictions to continue for customers on Central Regional Supply Scheme

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.

Uisce Éireann, working with Kerry County Council, wishes to inform homes and businesses supplied by the Sheheree Reservoir on the Central Regional Water Supply Scheme, that intermittent night-time restrictions must continue in some areas over the coming days as reservoir levels continue to replenish.

Crews worked to repair a major burst water main on the supply on Saturday night with the vast majority of the 4,000 customers affected having their water supply restored by Sunday afternoon.

This network supplies approximately 60,000 customers in the greater Killarney, Tralee, Castleisland, Castlemaine areas and most of East Kerry.

Oliver Harney from Uisce Éireann said:

"We appreciate people's patience and co-operation as we continue to work through these water supply challenges; however, it is necessary to impose intermittent water restrictions in the area as reservoir levels recover."

"We would again like to remind customers to continue to conserve water. The combination of the high demand over the past week, along with the burst water main, means the water supply though recovering is still very low. We must all do our part in trying to help conserve water where we can."

Elsewhere, night-time restrictions in Breanlee, Mid-Kerry and Milltown have been lifted as demand has dropped back and temperatures return to average levels.

Conservation tips

There are a number of easy steps to reduce water usage during the hot weather, including:

•    Avoid power washing and keep the garden hose in the shed

•    Check for leaks on outdoor taps or troughs as these can lead to large losses of treated water

•    Remember that paddling pools and swimming pools can use huge volumes of water so consider reusing the water for the garden or cleaning the car.

•    Report any visible leaks on the public network to Uisce Éireann at water.ie or call 1800 278 278.

•    Where householders experience very low flow or pressure, lower than neighbouring properties, they may have a service pipe leak. Uisce Éireann's First-Fix-Free Scheme can help with the location and repair of external leaks. Details at water.ie or call 1800 278 278.

Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience when a burst occurs and thanks customers for their patience while we work to repair the burst and restore normal supply to impacted customers. Our customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries.

Uisce Éireann, working with Kerry County Council, have carried out repairs following a burst on a major watermain overnight from Lough Guitane Water Treatment Plant to Sheheree Reservoir on the Central Regional Water Supply Scheme in Co. Kerry.

This network supplies customers in the greater Killarney, Tralee, Castleisland, Castlemaine areas and also most of East Kerry. Approximately 4000 customers on parts of the supply network are currently experiencing disruptions to supply.

Oliver Harney from Uisce Éireann said, "Dedicated crews from Kerry County Council worked through the night to complete the repair works. Works to re-establish supply are anticipated to be fully completed in the next few hours. We expect that the majority of customers will have their supply returned by early afternoon.

"However, as the network refills it can be put under additional strain, so repair crews are on standby in case of further issues or bursts. As supply returns, we would also like to remind customers to continue to conserve water.
