Completion of trunk main at Farranfore on the horizon
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Kerry County Council, is replacing approximately 3,700 meters of problematic water mains at Ash Hill in Tralee to improve water quality and pressure, provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage in the area.
These works will commence in mid-November and are part of Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme. The works will be carried out by Ward and Burke Ltd., on behalf of Uisce Éireann and are expected to be completed in mid-January.
The works will commence on completion of the works currently underway in the Farranfore area. Ward and Burke Ltd. will move from the works in Farranfore to the Ash Hill area in Tralee where they will continue works in that area with Kerry County Council.
The works in Ash Hill, Farmer's Bridge, Ballymacelligott, will take place in two sections, from the crossroads at Farmer's Bridge south to Lissardboola and on the L2012 from the Farmer's Bridge crossroads, eastbound via Tonreigh for approximately 2.5km.
All of the works will involve replacing old, damaged trunk mains with new modern, ductile iron pipes.
This work is being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's Leakage Reduction Programme, which will see €500m invested nationally to tackle problematic pipes and leakage in Ireland's ageing water network.
"Uisce Éireann would like to thank the local community, businesses, homeowners and commuters for their patience and cooperation while we work to deliver this vital water improvement project in the Ash Hill area of Tralee." said Steven Blennerhassett, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead, Uisce Éireann.
"We would also like to acknowledge and thank the people of Kerry, including the local community in Farranfore, as well as the many commuters through the village each day, for their cooperation and patience as we worked to deliver essential infrastructure in Farranfore.
"Replacing the old, damaged pipes will safeguard water supply in both areas. The completion of new trunk mains in both areas will greatly reduce the instances of bursts and water outages in the region.
The works may involve some short-term water shut offs and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water shut offs. Where water mains are being constructed, traffic management may be in place during this time. Local and emergency traffic will be maintained at all times.
"We will work with the community to minimise disruption." added Steven Blennerhassett.
