Crews have successfully repaired the major burst in Galway and normal water supply is restored
Customers may experience low pressure during the day and into the evening as reservoir levels recover
Uisce Éireann and Galway City Council crews working through the night successfully completed repairs to a burst watermain at the NUIG campus at 6:30am this morning. The repairs were very complex due to the location of the burst on the NUIG Campus and the presence of many services over the watermain which had to be carefully excavated.
The watermain supplies the Clifton Hill and Tonabrucky reservoirs. Customers in the west of the city including Knocknacarra, Barna, Moycullen and surrounding areas supplied from Tonabruckey Reservoir may experience low pressure during the day and into the evening as reservoir levels recover.
Speaking about this Tim O'Connor, Uisce Éireann, said: "The repairs were complex due to the location of the burst and the presence of other services. Dedicated crews, did excellent work, working through the night carried out the repair as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to the area and restore water for all customers. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience as we worked to return the water supply to homes and businesses as quickly and as safely as possible."
Tim continued: "Typically it takes several hours after repairs are completed to restore normal supply to all customers affected by an unplanned outage but it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand-washing."
Uisce Éireann is working at this time, with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services.
Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience when a burst occurs and thanks customers for their patience while we worked to repair the burst and as normal supply is returned to impacted customers.
