Crews working to quickly restore water supply for customers in Castlegregory
Burst is impacting the water supply to homes and businesses in Castlegregory, Maharees, Kilshannig, Stradbally, Brandon, Aughacasla
Uisce Éireann has identified a burst watermain in the village of Castlegregory, Co. Kerry. Uisce Éireann is working with Kerry County Council to restore water as quickly as possible to impacted customers supplied by the Castlegreggory Public Water Supply Scheme. Whilst every effort is being made to maintain supply to as many customers as possible, the burst is impacting the water supply to homes and businesses in Castlegregory, Maharees, Kilshannig, Stradbally, Brandon, Aughacasla and surrounding areas.
Dedicated water service crews have mobilised and repairs are underway and are expected to be completed by 3pm today. Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. To ensure the safety of the public and crews carrying out the repairs to the burst, traffic management is in place and clearly signposted.
To support customers an alternative drinking water supply is available at the Spar Shop Car Park from mid-morning. We advise customers taking water from the tanker to bring their own containers and to boil the water before use as a precaution. Customers are also asked to follow COVID-19 guidelines and maintain social distancing when collecting water.
Customers in Ceann Trá, Baile an Fheirtéaraigh, Dún Chaoin and surrounding areas may have intermittent water supplies today due to ESB outages following on from Storm Barra. Generators are being mobilised to the affected plant this morning, but it may take time to restore supplies to all of the areas impacted.
Anna Brosnan, Uisce Éireann, commented: "The repairs are being conducted as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to these areas and restore water for all customers. We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience as we work to return the water supply to homes and businesses as quickly as possible."
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
