Repairs complete on a major watermain burst in Drogheda
Some customers in Clogherhead on the extremity of the network are continuing to experience loss of supply
Uisce Éireann working with Louth County Council successfully repaired a major burst watermain yesterday. The burst, located on the Donore road impacted the supply in Drogheda since early on Monday morning.
The areas initially affected by the burst included Ballsgrove Estate, Donore Industrial Estate, Trinity Street, Patrick Street, Lourdes, Drogheda Town North, Cord Road, Cross Lane, Ballymakenny Road, Sandyford, North Quay, Termonfeckin, Clogherhead, Termonabbey, Newfoundwell Road, Ballymakenny Road and surrounding areas. In addition the supply to Drogheda Town South and surrounding areas was shut off temporarily yesterday morning to facilitate the emergency repairs.
Dedicated water service crews were mobilised and repairs were underway since early on Monday morning and continued through the night and were completed at approximately 11:30am yesterday morning. Whilst supply will have returned to most properties by now, some customers in Clogherhead on the extremity of the network are continuing to experience loss of supply. Uisce Éireann is also tankering water to the local reservoir in order to re-fill it as quickly as possible to improve water pressure.
To support these customers, Uisce Éireann and Louth County Council are putting alternative water supplies in place at the Garda station.
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers or IBCs and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure. Customers should follow HSE and government COVID-19 advice in relation to social distancing when collecting water from tankers.
