Customers in Cork City urged to report leaks as thaw conditions may lead to increase in bursts on the network

As the impact of the freezing weather and subsequent thaw continues to be felt over the coming days there may be some further disruption to supplies around the country. This is because, as frozen pipes begin to thaw, this can lead to an increase in bursts and leaks.
Uisce Éireann’s Water Operations Lead for Cork City James Goulding is reminding people to continue to be mindful of their water usage and report any leaks on the public network. He said, “As the freezing conditions we have experienced are replaced by a thaw we expect to see an increase in leaks and bursts on the network. Water services crews remain on standby ready to maintain and restore water supplies for customers in Cork City, but there may be increased instances of discolouration in areas where water pipes break or burst, and while repair works are carried out.”
He added, “We would ask people to remain vigilant over the coming days and report any leaks they see in the public network so that our crews can carry out repairs. The public can report leaks or bursts to our Customer Care Team on 1800 278 278.”
