Exciting water conservation masterclass to help Letterkenny businesses reduce bills

As Letterkenny businesses prepare to welcome tourists this summer, they also have an opportunity to reduce their costs.

Uisce Éireann has selected the Donegal town to roll out the utility's new sustainable Water Towns Initiative which is good news for businesses wanting to drive down their water consumption and save money on their bills.

On Wednesday, 15 June Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Chambers Ireland, will deliver an online masterclass on water conservation and Letterkenny businesses are encouraged to attend.

Toni Forrester, CEO of Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce appealed to all size businesses to contact the chamber and sign up to the free class.

"Letterkenny Chamber is delighted to be part of the Uisce Éireann Sustainable Water Towns Initiative. With current pressures on businesses and the move to companies adopting sustainable development goals , this lunchtime masterclass is an opportunity for Donegal businesses to learn how to make changes that will positively impact their operations, their bottom line and add to their green credentials."

The class will provide business owners with the knowledge and expertise to lower water consumption and reduce operating costs while protecting the environment. Small changes such as identifying water waste on site, setting a baseline for water use, raising awareness amongst staff and customers or upgrading to water efficient devices can help to save water and money.

Letterkenny Tidy Towns has already signed up. The group is no stranger to winning awards and members want to ensure they continue to be out in front when it comes to enhancing the environment.

"The work of Letterkenny Tidy Towns instils a sense of pride not just among the people of Letterkenny but everyone in the county. Rolling out Uisce Éireann's Sustainable Water Towns Initiative is another way of enhancing and improving the town. We're honoured to be involved in the initiative," said Tidy Towns Chairperson Gerard McCormick.

Uisce Éireann's Business Communications and Marketing Lead Christine Crawford is encouraging Letterkenny businesses to take the Water Conservation Pledge ahead of the masterclass.

"We are calling on the town's thriving industry to commit to making changes that will conserve water by taking the Water Conservation Pledge. It only takes two minutes online at water.ie and you can post your pledge on social media as a clear demonstration of Letterkenny's growing reputation and leadership on climate action and water stewardship."

Letterkenny joins three other towns across the country - Westport and Ballina in Co Mayo and Shannon in Co Clare - in leading the way with the Sustainable Water Towns Initiative.

Uisce Éireann has developed three steps to support businesses to move to more sustainable water management. The first step is the Water Conservation Pledge which only takes minutes to complete. This is followed by free online Water Conservation Training, and finally businesses can enrol and become a Certified Water Steward.

Businesses can email Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce on admin@letterkennychamber.com to register for the masterclass and they can find out more information on the Water Conservation for Business Hub section of our website.
