Major upgrade to the sewer network on Dublin Road, Celbridge due to begin
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with South Dublin and Kildare County Councils, is progressing a major project to upgrade and improve the sewer network on the Dublin Road in Celbridge. The delivery of this important wastewater project will support future growth and development, improve the existing sewer network for local residents and safeguard the environment by reducing the risk of sewer overflows into the River Liffey.
The project, which is due to begin in the coming weeks, will involve the construction of 5kms of new sewers along the R405, near the local National School on the east side of Celbridge, stretching along the Dublin Road from Celbridge town and into South County Dublin. The project will also include essential upgrades to Primrose Hill Pumping Station.
Commenting on the project, Padraig Hanly, Uisce Éireann said, "Working with our colleagues in Kildare and South Dublin County Councils, we are delighted to announce the progression of this vital project for Celbridge. A sewer network that is fit for purpose is essential in order to support business and social development in the community. These works will support existing and future residential and commercial development while also improving the overall performance of the sewer network and will safeguard the local environment by reducing the risk of sewer flooding.
"We understand that the works may cause some inconvenience to commuters and our crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption and complete the project as quickly as possible. On behalf of Uisce Éireann, I would like and thank the people of Celbridge in advance for their support and co-operation."
To minimise the impact on the local community, works will be delivered on a phased basis with areas of work limited to short sections. The first phase of the project will take place on Tubber Lane Road between Celbridge Link Road and Tobermaclugg Pumping Station and is scheduled for completion at the end of June. The next phase will take place on the Dublin Rd between Supervalu in Celbridge to the Shinkeen Bridge located near Ballyouster Park, and is expected to be completed in three months. Phase 3 is scheduled to start in October also on the Dublin Road from the Shinkeen Bridge to New Celbridge Link Road and is expected to take four months to complete. The final phase will begin in late 2022 and continue into 2023 and will include the upgrade of Primrose Hill Pumping Station located in Celbridge.
Where works are underway on the public road, traffic management will be in place in the form of a stop/go traffic light system, however, emergency traffic & access for local residents will be maintained at all times. Where potential road closures are required, Uisce Éireann will ensure communication is provided locally. The project, which is due to be completed in late 2023, is being delivered by Coffey Construction Limited on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
