Major watermains project in the pipeline for Navan to build security of supply
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Meath County Council, is progressing plans to replace over 4kms of watermains between Navan's Water Treatment Plant at Liscarton and its storage reservoir at Proudstown. This strategically important investment will help safeguard the water supply to homes and businesses by increasing the security and resilience of the drinking water supply in Navan and surrounding areas.
The existing 46-year-old asbestos cement rising main between Liscarton Water Treatment Plant and Proudstown Reservoir has been subject to several bursts resulting in a loss of supply to the Navan area. Surveys of the pipeline route are currently underway and site investigation works are scheduled to commence in the coming weeks. The timeline for the commencement of the pipeline replacement works is subject to planning and statutory approvals and Uisce Éireann in conjunction with Meath Country Council will continue to provide updates as the project progresses.
Speaking about the planning of this project, William McKnight, Regional Delivery Lead at Uisce Éireann, said: "The planning and delivery of this significant project will improve security and resilience for residents and businesses in Navan and the surrounding areas. This project is one of a number of similar projects being prioritised by Uisce Éireann to reduce interruptions or outages to the drinking water supply and facilitate growth for the Navan/Mid Meath and East Meath Water Supply Zones."
William added, "The progression of these essential projects in Meath will provide the infrastructure to support the building of houses and schools, to attract new industry and to facilitate businesses to expand and grow."
