Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section
Uisce Éireann’s commitment to improving the water supply for Clonmel customers continues with a €10 million upgrade to the Glenary Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The project will result in 5,000 homes and businesses in Clonmel and surrounding areas being able to enjoy a more secure and resilient water supply.
As part of the works, the installation of 1.3 km of new water main to connect the Glenary plant to the reservoir will begin along the L5096 Kilcomma Road, Co Waterford in the coming weeks, with the plant upgrade commencing in February. The project is being carried out by Ward & Burke on behalf of Uisce Éireann and is expected to be completed in 2026.
John Hickey, Programme Manager, Uisce Éireann said: “We’re delighted to be progressing this significant upgrade to the treatment plant at Glenary. The project is part of a wider commitment by Uisce Éireann to deliver a more robust and resilient water supply in the Clonmel area. I want to take this opportunity to thank the community in advance for their ongoing support and patience throughout the delivery of this vital project.”
The significant upgrade to the Glenary water treatment plant will involve improvements to the treatment systems including the coagulation, clarification, and filtration processes; the installation of new chambers and mixers; and an upgrade to the electrical installation and control and monitoring systems.
To deliver the watermain installation works safely and efficiently, traffic management will be in place along the affected roads. The community can be assured that local and emergency access will be maintained.
Other works in progress by Uisce Éireann to improve the water supply to Clonmel and surrounding areas include the installation of a 15km new water main along the Fethard Road, as well as upgrades to the Monroe WTP and Rathronan Pump Station. Once complete, the Monroe supply will be connected to the Clonmel North Reservoir and Poulavanogue network addressing water quality risks for customers on the town’s Poulavanogue supply and allowing it to be taken off the EPA’s Remedial Action List.
