Overnight outages planned on Galway’s Old Dublin Road for essential repairs

Uisce Éireann will carry out essential repair works on a large water main on the Old Dublin Road (R338) in Galway City on the night of Tuesday, 21 January into the morning of Wednesday, 22 January.

The works are necessary to repair a significant leak on the water main near Woodhaven Lodge and will require the water supply to surrounding areas to be disrupted between the hours of 11pm on Tuesday night and 5am on Wednesday morning. The outage will last for approximately six hours.

The outage will affect an estimated 1,000 homes and businesses in the surrounding areas, including Uisce Éireann customers in Merlin Park Woods, Coill Tíre, Ros Caoin, Lurgan Park, Ross Allta, Gleann Rua and Gleann na Rí. Customers in these areas may experience supply outages or disruptions to their supply.

Speaking about these essential works, Uisce Éireann’s Leo O’Shea explained that specialist teams will work as quickly as possible to complete the repairs and restore normal water supply.

“Uisce Éireann acknowledges the inconvenience caused by interruptions to water supply and thanks the affected customers for their patience and cooperation while we deliver these essential works,” said Leo.

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.
