Uisce Éireann customers in Raphoe can look forward to a more reliable water supply as significant improvement works get underway in the East Donegal town in the coming days.

Uisce Éireann has prioritised more than 1km of damaged water mains for replacement at Beltony Road, Raphoe, which will ensure a reduction in disruption from bursts and supply interruptions for customers. These important works will not only give local homes and businesses more confidence in their supply, but the new pipework will put an end to leakage of treated water into the ground.  Crews will be carrying out this water main replacement project along the L2334 at Miltown/Figart, Raphoe. Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager Patricia Lowry is looking forward to delivering the project for customers in Raphoe. “This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply and improved water quality. It will also help us achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.”

To deliver the works safely and efficiently, a road closure will be necessary. Diversion routes will be in place and the community can be assured that local and emergency access will be maintained at all times. Patricia continued: “We understand that this type of work is inconvenient, and our crews are making every effort to minimise disruption to the local community. These works are vital to ensure Raphoe’s security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience. We thank the community for their patience and cooperation as these essential works progress”.

These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme. Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions. Farrans Construction are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann which are expected to be completed by late Spring 2025.
