Roscommon Town Main Drainage Scheme project passes the halfway mark
It's passed the halfway mark, the majority of work on public streets is complete and Roscommon Town Main Drainage Scheme is on course to cross the finish line in early 2023.
The Uisce Éireann project "is a credit to everyone involved", according to Cathaoirleach of Roscommon County Council Joe Murphy.
"The project is moving along quickly and with little disruption to traffic. The benefits of these works in terms of the development of Roscommon Town are immense - the capacity increase in the wastewater network will support housing and commercial development.
"People want to live and work in their own communities and this project is supporting the growth of the town."
The complex scheme includes more than 7km of new sewer infrastructure, new and upgraded pumping stations and storm water overflows. The project has also seen the tunnelling of a pipe under Roscommon's railway line and River Jiggy.
Uisce Éireann's Regional Delivery Lead Eunan Canavan is proud of the progress made on the project and is looking forward to the final stretch. He thanked the people of Roscommon for their support as work continues over the coming months to deliver the vital infrastructure.
"Uisce Éireann is committed to continuously upgrading and developing critical infrastructure to support the growth needed in housing and across our economy. This project will also protect our environment by reducing the risk of sewer flooding in Roscommon Town and eliminating non-compliant sewer overflows into the River Jiggy.
"Together with our partners Roscommon County Council, Tobin Consulting Engineers and GMC Utilities Group, we are excited to deliver this project which will benefit the entire region when it's completed in 2023."
