A safer, more reliable water supply on the horizon for Dalysfort Road, Salthill
2022 promises to bring a more reliable water supply to homes along Dalysfort Road, Salthill with work to upgrade watermains due to get underway shortly.
Approximately 920 metres of old cast iron watermains, prone to leakage will be replaced with modern pipework.
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Galway City Council, will begin work on site in the coming days with the project due to be completed by the end of January 2022. The new pipes will not only reduce disruptions to customers from bursts and outages, but it will reduce the amount of clean water lost underground.
Water quality will improve and savings will be made on operation and maintenance of the network.
Outlining the benefits of the works, Gerry O'Donnell, Networks Regional Lead with Uisce Éireann, said: "These essential works will strengthen and reinforce the water network in Dalysfort Road, Salthill. There will be an immediate positive impact to supply for customers".
In order to deliver this essential upgrade, there may be short term interruptions to the water supply in the area and traffic management will be in place. However, the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions and areas of work will be limited to short distances to minimise impact. The works will be delivered on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Farrans Construction.
The work being undertaken as part of this project is another example of Uisce Éireann's commitment to driving down leakage in Galway.
By the end of 2021 the delivery of the National Leakage Reduction Programme will see €500m invested in reducing the level of leakage across the country by fixing and replacing old and damaged watermains. This will ensure a safe, reliable water supply, which is vital for our health, our environment and our growing population and economy.
Residents who will benefit from the works have been notified directly but Uisce Éireann's customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries.
