Summer works will bring better quality water to Elphin
Works planned for Elphin this summer will improve the water quality for generations of local people.
Uisce Éireann will begin replacing more than 1km of old cast iron pipes in the town centre later this month.
The new pipes will not only reduce the number of bursts but also promises local residents and businesses a better quality of water.
Declan Cawley, Leakage Reduction Programme Regional Lead with Uisce Éireann, is looking forward to delivering this vital project in the Roscommon town.
"The water quality in Elphin Town has been a constant challenge for homes and businesses. Over time, cast iron pipes can become encrusted and affect water quality and pressure. New pipework, installed as part of these works, will significantly improve water quality."
The essential works, which will take place along the Main Street, Chapel Street and Druid Lane, will also reduce the number of outages and save treated drinking water from being lost into the ground.
In order to carry out the works, short-term interruptions to the water supply may be required and there will be some disruption to traffic.
"We are aware that works of this nature can cause some disruption. We would like to assure the public that, together with Roscommon County Council and our contractor Farrans Construction, We are working to minimise any inconvenience over the course of the works."

These works in Elphin, which are due to be completed in September, are being carried out under the National Leakage Reduction Programme. Since 2018, Uisce Éireann has invested more than €500million to upgrade the underground water network across the country by fixing leaks and replacing pipes and we are investing a further €250million each year up to the end of 2030.
