Uisce Éireann crews have repaired a major burst in Balbriggan, Co Dublin today and water is returning to customers affected.

The significant burst on the network resulted in low water levels at Jordanstown Reservoir this morning which affected areas including Drogheda Street, Dublin Street, Lambeecher, Bath Road, Caoimhin Park, Curran Park, Pinewood, Balscadden, Flemington Road, Flemington Park, Barnageera, Skerries, Naul Road, Ringcommon, Balrothery Village, The Naul, Man O’War, Palmerstown, Hollywood, Castlelands and surrounding areas.

Repair works continued throughout the day and the network is now re-filling. Most premises in the area have had water restored with the remainder to have their water restored by this evening.

Tselopile Tlou of Uisce Éireann thanked affected customers for their cooperation while these repair works were being carried out.
“Uisce Éireann acknowledges the disruption that can be caused by an unplanned outage such as this one and we wish to thank customers in the area for their patience while these repair works were under way,” he said.

Following the completion of the works, it can take 2-3 hours for the normal water supply to return as water refills the network, particularly for those properties on high ground or at the end of the network.

Previous Updates

We are working to restore normal water supply to homes and businesses in Balbriggan and surrounding areas of North County Dublin following a large burst to a water main which has resulted to low water levels at Jordanstown Reservoir this morning.

Water service crews are on site and have commenced work to repair the burst water main.

The areas affected include Drogheda Street, Dublin Street, Lambeecher, Bath Road, Caoimhin Park, Curran Park, Pinewood, Balscadden, Flemington Road, Flemington Park, Barnageera, Skerries, Naul Road, Ringcommon, Balrothery Village, The Naul, Man O’War, Palmerstown, Hollywood, Castlelands and surrounding areas.
Uisce Éireann is endeavouring to return supply as quickly as possible and also protect the water supply to priority customers which can include nursing homes, schools and hospitals.

It will take a number of hours to complete the repair and to restore normal supply to all customers affected by this unplanned outage. Customers will have their water restored at different stages throughout the day as the reservoir recovers.

Following repair works, it typically takes three to four hours for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

Tselopile Tlou, Uisce Éireann Water Operations Manager, said: “We understand the inconvenience when a burst of this nature occurs, and we are working to repair to the burst as quickly as possible. We anticipate that water will be restored to everyone by this evening. Again, we thank the community for their understanding at this time.”
