Uisce Éireann commencing watermain upgrade works in Cappamore, Co. Limerick
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.
Uisce Éireann crews have arrived in Cappamore, Co. Limerick and bring with them the promise of a more secure and reliable water supply for current and future generations to come.
The works involve the replacement of 4km of aged watermains prone to bursts as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.
Brian McCarthy, Uisce Éireann Programme Manager, is eager to implement this project for the Cappamore community.
“This project will provide numerous benefits for our customers by strengthening and reinforcing the water network, eliminating existing leaks and reducing the instances of bursts. Replacing these old watermains that are in poor condition will ensure a more sustainable water supply and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground. We would like to thank the local community for their cooperation and patience while we carry out these essential works in the area”
The section of works will take place along the L-1127 from Bilbao National School, onto the L-1130 towards Cappamore. The works will end before the crossroads onto the R505.
Traffic management will be in place at this time, in the form of traffic lights and a future road closure. Road closure details will be communicated locally closer to the time. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained. Areas of work will be limited to short sections to minimise impact and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.
Ward and Burke Construction Ltd is carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann with the project expected to be complete by April 2025.
Separately Uisce Éireann is continuing to prioritise works to safely lift the Boil Water Notice affecting customers supplied by the Cappamore Foileen Public Water Supply, including Craigmore, which is now supplied from the Cappamore Scheme. The notice remains in place and was issued as a precautionary measure to protect the health of approximately 2,300 customers due to the detection of cryptosporidium in the water supply. Uisce Éireann is implementing remedial measures to existing processes and is also undertaking upgrades at the plant. This includes the installation of a state-of-the-art ultraviolet disinfection unit which will provide an effective and reliable barrier to eliminate the risk of cryptosporidium. The ESB are also working to upgrade the site and we are working closely with the ESB to minimise any potential delay and lift this notice in the shortest possible timeframe. Uisce Éireann will continue to keep the community informed on progress.
