Uisce Éireann putting a stop to bursts in Cavan Town

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Replacing 1.5km of old water mains in Cavan Town will reduce bursts affecting homes and businesses.

Uisce Éireann crews will arrive along Railway Road next week and begin work on removing the ageing pipes and laying new ones.

The section of works will run along the R212 College Street and the R198 Railway Road.

To ensure the safe and efficient delivery of the project crews will carry out a chunk of the work at night.

The R212 College Street from Wolfe Tone Steet junction to Farnham Street roundabout will be closed from 7am to 7pm this Monday, 17 February to Friday, 16 May. Traffic lights will also be in place on the R198 Railway Road from the Farnham Street roundabout to the junction at Cavan General Hospital.

Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager Patricia Lowry is looking forward to delivering the project for customers in Cavan and assured locals that emergency and local traffic will be facilitated at all times.

This work will bring a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply and improved water quality. It will also help us achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.”

Patricia continued: “We understand that this type of work is inconvenient, and our crews are making every effort to minimise disruption to the local community. These works are vital to ensure Cavan’s security of supply now and into the future, with the long-term benefits far outweighing any short-term inconvenience. We thank the community for their patience and cooperation as these essential works progress”.

These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Areas of work will be limited to short sections and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours’ notice prior to any planned interruptions.

Farrans Construction are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann which are expected to be completed by Autumn 2025.
