Upgrades to improve water supply and reduce leakage in Ballivor
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Meath County Council have completed works to install new water mains in Ballivor, Co Meath to help relieve some of the critical supply issues in the area and provide a more reliable water supply to homes and businesses.
Works involved the installation of approximately 450 metres of new modern high-density polyethylene (plastic) pipes along the L4015 to connect two existing supplies. These strategic works will help to secure part of the network in Ballivor where supply is being supplemented by tankered water by reducing the need for ongoing tankering and safeguarding the water supply to homes and businesses in the area. These improvements works were delivered in line with current Government and HSE COVID-19 guidance and were carried out by GMC Utilities Group Limited on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
These works were delivered as part of Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme which involves an investment of over €500 million between 2017 and the end of 2021 and helps provide a more reliable water supply to Irish communities, reduce high levels of leakage and improve water quality. Works were delivered in line with current Government and HSE COVID-19 guidance and were carried out by GMC Utilities Group Limited on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Speaking about these works, Matt Thomson, Uisce Éireann's Regional Lead, commented "These works were vital to ensure a more secure water supply to homes and businesses in Ballivor and are part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to safeguard the water supply. The installation of new water mains will also help conserve this precious resource and improve levels of service for homes and businesses in the area. We would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation while we delivered this needed improvement."
Uisce Éireann and our partners in Meath County Council will continue to monitor the performance of the water network and undertake additional works as required to safeguard the local supply.
We are working at this time with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. Uisce Éireann would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.
