Water supply restored in Tallaght area

Uisce Éireann has restored the water supply in Tallaght, Dublin following a burst water main caused by the freezing weather conditions over the weekend.

Uisce Éireann crews identified and isolated the burst watermain on the N81 Blessington Road in Tallaght impacting customers in Millbrook Lawns, Avonbeg, Avonmore and Tallaght Village. A traffic management system was put in place on a section of the N81 on Sunday for the repair works to be carried out.

Work to repair the burst watermain continues and is expected to be completed tonight, however, water has now been restored to all customers in the area. 

Following repair works, it typically takes three to four hours for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

Stephen Burke, Regional Operations Manager, said, “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned interruption and thank our customers for their patience.”

Uisce Éireann is urging the public to conserve water and protect supply. Usage has increased considerably over the past number of days as freezing weather conditions continue. 

Stephen Burke, continued, “We are appealing to customers to be mindful of their water usage and to conserve water where possible. We recommend that people don't run taps continually as this is not an effective way of preventing frozen pipes and can cause other problems such as frozen drains. It puts further pressure on the local water supply which is already challenged by the freezing conditions. Being mindful of water use at home, on farms and in businesses can make a big difference and alleviate the need for restrictions to supply.”
