Water supply returning to majority of customers supplied by Ballinatona Water Treatment Plant in North Cork
Storm Éowyn led to poor raw water quality at the Ballinatona Water Treatment Plant
Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section.
Uisce Éireann crews have been working tirelessly to address supply interruptions following the impact of Storm Éowyn on water treatment plants and pumping stations across the county.
Storm Éowyn led to poor raw water quality at the Ballinatona Water Treatment Plant in North Cork and, as a result, treated water production from the plant was reduced. Customers in Meelin, Barnacurra, Ballyduane, Boherbue, Dernagree, Knocknagree, Kiskeam, Ballydesmond, Killbrin and surrounding areas were impacted by reduced water pressure or a loss of supply over the weekend.
To support impacted customers, alternative water supplies (in the form of bottled water) were in place at Boherbue National School, Kiskeam GAA Community Centre and at the carpark across from the church at Meelin village. As water has now returned to these catchment regions, the alternative water supplies have been removed.
Elsewhere in the county, water is returning to residents in Taur, Newmarket and is expected to be fully restored later this evening. It can take three to four hours for the network to fully recharge, and it may take longer for customers on higher ground or at the end of the network.
Bottled water has been made available for approximately 20 customers without water in Lettercollum near Timoleague, and to a small number of customers on Dursey Island.
Updates on local supply issues will be provided on the Uisce Éireann website, www.water.ie, as they become available.
Niall O’Riordan, Operations Manager with Uisce Éireann said: “As the efforts to restore normal water supplies continue in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn, Uisce Éireann would like to apologise to customers who were without water for a number of days and would like to thank the public for their continued patience during this challenging time, as our teams and crews worked to restore normal water supplies and to provide alternative water supplies.”
Customers are being urged to conserve water where possible to protect supply. There are some simple steps people can take to conserve their water. To learn more, visit our conservation section.
