Works continue to address issues with Gort Public Water Supply
Uisce Éireann is progressing with works to upgrade the water treatment plant to address issues with the Gort Water Supply where a Boil Water Notice is currently in place.
Crews from Uisce Éireann and Galway County Council are on site carrying out upgrade works to rectify the issues at the treatment plant with a view to lifting the Boil Water Notice which is currently in place as quickly and as safely as possible.
While works are underway, customers in Gort and surrounding areas may experience temporary, intermittent low pressure and/or water outages from 5am to 12 noon each day from Tuesday 24 May until Thursday 26 May.
To reduce the impact on customers, crews will reconfigure the network in order to maintain the water supply to as many areas as possible. However, customers located on higher ground and on the extremities of the network will experience low pressure and outages until these works are completed. Typically, it takes two to three hours following restoration time for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas. In the meantime, the Boil Water Notice remains in place until further notice.
Uisce Éireann's Operational Lead, Rónan Daly said: "We are delighted to be progressing with the upgrade works for Gort. The upgrade to the existing water treatment plant is necessary to bring an end to the Boil Water Notice that local communities in Gort have experienced over the last number of months.
"For now, the Boil Water Notice will remain in place until further notice to protect our consumers. We completely understand the community's frustration and can ensure everyone that we are working tirelessly to resolve the issues affecting the treatment plant. We again apologise for the inconvenience this has caused."
Uisce Éireann understands the disruption this issue is causing and thanks customers for their patience while we worked to restore normal supply to all impacted customers.
