Works continue to improve the sewer network in Ballycullen and Scholarstown
Uisce Éireann continues to work in partnership with South Dublin County Council on improving the sewer network in the Ballycullen and Scholarstown in Dublin. The delivery of this wastewater project will support existing and future residential and commercial development while helping to safeguard the environment by reducing the risk of wastewater overflows. The project is being delivered by GMC Utilities Group on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
The works involve the construction of almost 2km of new sewers along Stocking Well Row, Scholarstown Road, Templeroan Road, Knocklyon Road, Firhouse Road and in Ballycragh park adjacent to the Killinniny Road, Ballycullen. To minimise the impact on the local community, areas of work have been limited to short sections with construction carried out in phases.
The next phase of this project involves site clearing works which are scheduled to begin on Tuesday 30 November and will continue until 17 December. Works will recommence in January 2022 with the sewer upgrade element of these works starting and will be due for completion in Q1 2022. These works will involve the construction of a further 650m of new sewer pipeline from Firhouse Road to the recently upgraded network on Templeroan Road, Via Landsdown Park, Coolamber Park, Knocklyon Rd and Knockcullen Drive.
To facilitate the safe delivery of the works, some traffic management will be in place including a stop/go traffic light system, however, works are primarily off road and on green areas. Works taking place on roads and footpaths will take place during dates & times that will cause minimal distribution to the local community. Local and emergency access will be maintained at all times and the local community where the works are being delivered have been notified directly. The project is expected to be completed in Q2 2022.
Commenting on the project, Padraig Hanly, Uisce Éireann said, "A sewer network that is fit for purpose is essential in order to support business and social development in the community. These works will support existing and future residential and commercial development while also improving the overall performance of the sewer network, helping to safeguard the environment. Uisce Éireann, South Dublin County Council regret any inconvenience these necessary improvement works may cause."
