Works continue to upgrade water treatment infrastructure in Enfield
Uisce Éireann working in partnership with Meath County Council continues to progress with upgrades to the water treatment infrastructure in Enfield. Uisce Éireann has recently completed essential disinfection upgrades at Enfield water treatment plant to protect water quality and minimise the risk of Boil Water Notices. Additional works are in progress at the plant to improve operational performance and resilience, including the installation of new pumps, additional monitoring equipment and controls and new waste facilities. These upgrades are expected to be completed in early 2022.
In addition to the disinfection upgrade works and to provide a more resilient supply, Uisce Éireann in partnership with Meath County Council is fast-tracking plans to construct a treated drinking water reservoir in Enfield. Uisce Éireann plans to start construction in the coming months subject to progression through relevant statutory processes. Uisce Éireann is committed to providing further updates as the project progresses.
Speaking about supply disruptions in Enfield, Michael Cunniffe, Uisce Éireann said, "Uisce Éireann and Meath County Council understand the inconvenience recent supply disruptions have caused and we would like to reassure the people of Enfield that we are continuing to work to minimise any further disruptions. We are continually monitoring the performance of the water network and we undertake additional works as required to safeguard the local supply."
For planned disruptions, Uisce Éireann endeavours to give customers a minimum of 48 hours notice prior to any planned water shut-offs. Uisce Éireann issues a press release, and further updates in the event of ongoing incidents, to all local media outlets and elected representatives. The press release information is uploaded to the News section on the Uisce Éireann website and shared via customer care social media channels. The website has a location feature which allows customers to immediately see what works are ongoing in their locality by setting their location at www.water.ie and visiting the Supply and Service Updates page. The press release is also provided to customer services and the call centre and depending on the type of outage, vulnerable customers may be contacted directly.
In the event of unplanned drinking water incidents, it is not always possible to provide advance notice to customers. When Uisce Éireann and Meath County Council are made aware of an outage, we immediately investigate and work as a matter of priority to remedy the interruption and restore normal water supply to impacted customers as quickly and as safely as possible. We endeavour to share information on the Supply and Service Updates page on the Uisce Éireann website and via customer care social media channels as soon as possible following notification of an outage and to issue press releases to all local media outlets and elected representatives.
Customers who are experiencing issues with their water supply should report them directly to our customer contact centre so that an investigation can be carried out and normal supply can be restored.
