Works progress to improve Ballivor water supply
Uisce Éireann is working in partnership with Meath County Council to install new water mains in Ballivor, Co Meath to help relieve some of the critical supply issues in the area and provide a more reliable water supply to homes and businesses.
Works involve the installation of approximately 450 metres of new modern high-density polyethylene (plastic) pipes along the L4015 to connect two existing supplies. These strategic works will help to secure part of the network in Ballivor where supply is being supplemented by tankered water by reducing the need for ongoing tankering and safeguarding the water supply to homes and businesses in the area.
Works will commence on Monday 23 August and are expected to be completed by the end of September. Works are being delivered in line with current Government and HSE COVID-19 guidance and will be carried out by GMC Utilities Group Limited on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Short-term interruptions to water supply may be necessary while works are ongoing but Uisce Éireann will ensure that customers are given advanced notice of any planned disruptions to supply. To facilitate the safe delivery of the works, traffic management will be in place. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted and emergency and restricted local access will be maintained. Uisce Éireann and Meath County Council would like to thank the public for their patience as we carry out these essential works.
Speaking about these works, Matt Thomson, Uisce Éireann's Regional Lead, commented "These works are vital to ensure a more secure water supply to homes and businesses in Ballivor and are part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to safeguard the water supply. We understand this type of work can be inconvenient and we will ensure our work crews make every effort to minimise any disruption these works may cause."
These works are being carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's national Leakage Reduction Programme which involves an investment of over €500 million between 2017 and the end of 2021 and helps provide a more reliable water supply to Irish communities, reduce high levels of leakage and improve water quality.
Uisce Éireann and our partners in Meath County Council will continue to monitor the performance of the water network and undertake additional works as required to safeguard the local supply.
We are working at this time with our Local Authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of both staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of critical drinking water and wastewater services. Uisce Éireann would like to remind people to follow the HSE COVID-19 advice and ensure frequent handwashing.
