Essential night-time restriction required in Trim to help reservoir levels recover

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Meath County Council, advise customers in Trim that, essential night-time restrictions are required tonight to help reservoir levels recover. This restriction is necessary following an electrical failure at Trim Water Treatment Plant over the weekend.

To help reservoir levels recover and maintain a sufficient water supply to homes and businesses during normal working hours, water supply will be restricted from 10pm tonight, Wednesday 19 January, until 6am tomorrow morning. The following locations may experience reduced water pressure or disruption to their supply; Trim; Knightsbrook; Scurlockstown; Effernock; Carberstown; Blackfriary; Crowpark; Clonbun; Rathmolyon and surrounding areas.

It can take two to three hours following restriction for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas but, it is important to continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand-washing.

Speaking about the restriction, Michael Cunniffe, Uisce Éireann said: "Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience the restriction may cause. The night-time restriction is necessary to ensure a daytime water supply is available for residents and businesses for hygiene and other essential purposes. We are continuing to work to resolve the issue at the plant so that the plant can reliably operate at full production capacity and we will continue to provide updates as the work progresses. During the day time, we are appealing to customers to help conserve water by not running taps needlessly, taking showers instead of baths and to postpone using dishwashers and washing machines where possible. On Friday night, 14 January an electrical fault resulted in a shutdown of Trim Water Treatment Plant. Works to resolve the issue have continued throughout the weekend and intermittent water production and supply will continue today, Sunday 16 January and tomorrow Monday 17 January. 

To support customers an alternative drinking water supply is now available at Mornington House (County Council Buildings) until 4pm today, Sunday 16 January. 

We advise customers availing of this alternative drinking water supply to follow COVID-19 guidelines and maintain social distancing when collecting water. 

It is anticipated that water supply outages may continue for some customers in Trim, Knightsbrook, Scurlockstown, Effernock, Carberstown, Blackfriary, Crowpark, Clonbun, Rathmolyon and surrounding areas until tomorrow, Monday 17 January.

Interruptions to supply however will continue for the rest of today, Saturday 15 January and possibly into Sunday, 16th of January. This outage is as a result of an electrical fault resulting in a shutdown of Trim Water Treatment Plant. Works to resolve the issue are ongoing and are anticipated to be completed by this evening, which should facilitate water production and supply to recover overnight.

To support customers an alternative drinking water supply is now available at four locations including the public car park behind Aldi; Knightsbrook Hotel car park; the car park at Supermacs on the Navan road and Mornington House (County Council Buildings). Alternative drinking water supplies will be available at these locations until 4pm today, Saturday 15 January. 

In addition to these locations an alternative drinking water supply will be in place at the Church carpark in Rathmolyon (village outside Trim) from 2pm to 4pm today, Saturday 15 January.

We advise customers availing of these alternative drinking water supplies to follow COVID-19 guidelines and maintain social distancing when collecting water. 

It is anticipated that water supply outages are likely to continue in Trim, Knightsbrook, Scurlockstown, Effernock, Carberstown, Blackfriary, Crowpark, Clonbun, Rathmolyon and surrounding areas until midday tomorrow, Sunday 16 January.
