Works underway to restore water supply to Carlingford customers
Uisce Éireann is working in partnership with Louth County Council to carry out emergency works at Carlingford water treatment plant and Ardtullybeg water treatment plant to restore supply following a pump failure. An ESB pole was struck in the Carlingford area over the weekend which caused the power supply to both plants to be disrupted. When the power was restored a power surge caused a pump in both water treatment plants to overload and fail. This resulted in an unplanned water outage for customers in Carlingford, Rath North, Cooley and Ardtully Beg areas.
Specialised contractors are on site now carrying out essential maintenance and upgrade works to repair the pumps and restore water supply as quickly and as safely as possible. These works are being delivered in adherence with current HSE and government COVID-19 advice.
While works are ongoing customers in Carlingford, Rath North, Cooley and Ardtully Beg will continue to experience water outages.
Alternative water supplies are in place today at the following locations:
Omeath:
- At the recycling bins
- At St James Well
- At Bush Junction
Jenkinstown
- Fitzpatrick's Bar & Restaurant, Rockmarshall
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil the water before consumption as a precautionary measure. Customers should follow HSE and government COVID-19 advice in relation to social distancing when collecting water from tankers.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
Speaking about the works, Donal Heaney, Uisce Éireann said, "Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience caused when emergency works occur and thanks customers for their patience while we complete these essential works. Dedicated water services crews are working to restore water to all customers at this time."
Uisce Éireann is working at this time with our local authority partners, contractors and others to safeguard the health and well-being of staff and the public and to ensure the continuity of drinking water and wastewater services.
