Works underway to restore water supply to Athenry customers
Uisce Éireann and Galway County Council continue with repairs following a burst to a water main in Athenry Town. Whilst every effort is being made to maintain supply to as many customers as possible, the burst is impacting the water supply to customers in Raheen, Prospect and surrounding areas of Athenry, including Moanbaun Group Water Scheme.
The repairs are being conducted as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to the area and are expected to be completed later tonight. Typically it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas but it is important to continue to follow HSE guidance on hand-washing.
An alternative water supply in the form of bulk tankers will be in place from 5pm in the carpark at Coffey Construction offices in Moanbaun and also at Lorrogate Estate. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tankers and to boil and cool the water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
Speaking about the works, Rónan Daly, Uisce Éireann commented: "The repairs are being conducted as quickly and efficiently as possible to minimise disruption to the area. Uisce Éireann understands the inconvenience caused when unplanned supply disruptions occur and thanks customers in advance for their patience while we continue with these repairs and work to restore normal water supply to impacted customers."
