Lauragh Water Mains Rehabilitation Works

National Leakage Reduction Programme

Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Kerry County Council, has replaced problematic water mains in Lauragh, Co. Kerry to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.

The works involved the replacement of approximately 3km of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Lauragh, Co. Kerry commenced the start of October 2022. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.

Works took place in two sections - From An Síbín BnB along the L-4060 Road to the junction North of Josie's Lakeview House. Further works took place along a 300metre stretch of Road (L-7609) located opposite the entrance to the Old Limekiln off the main Kenmare to Ardgroom Road (R571).

The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke Construction and were completed by the end of December 2022.

What are the benefits of the works?

The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:

  • A Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
  • Reduced Leaks - Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
  • Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.

Traffic Management and Road Closure

In order to complete these works in a safe and efficient manner, a road closure is required along the L- 4060 Road between An Síbín BnB to its junction with the L-4061 Road at Glanmore Lake, approximately 300m South of Josie's Lakeview House.

The suggested diversion route for traffic travelling Southbound from An Síbín, is continue to the Kenmare to Ardgroom Road (R571), via Healy Pass Road (R274), and head Westbound towards Ardgroom before taking the road for Glanmore Lake (L- 4062) Southbound to its junction with the L- 4060 at Glanmore Lake.

Will customers be affected by the works?

Traffic management may be in place during this time. Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.

We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
